How to Get Off Xanax

Xanax withdrawal is one of the toughest things to do. For those who are on Xanax or Klonopin, you know what I'm talking about. I don't need to explain what Xanax or any kind of medications do since the person that is reading this, already knows what I'm talking about. Chances are, they are taking a Benzo like Xanax already and probably is wondering how to withdrawal from it safely.  [ See more on How to get off Xanax ].

The first thing that one doesn't want to do if they want to kick the Xanax habit - is not to just quit and go cold turkey. This will actually harm the individual's system. The best thing is to gradually taper off of it. When I say gradually, what I really mean is withdrawal very slowly. Here is the path that one can take.

Let's say an individual is taking 1 mg of Xanax per dose, three times a day. What this person need to do is buy a pill cutter. One can be bought at Walmart for only a few bucks. When the person cuts the pill, they cut off the pill as little as possible. So a 1 mg pill should be cut into four sections, and three of these sections should be taken. Therefore, the person is now taking only.75 mg per dosage. If this is too much and the person is experiencing withdrawal symptoms, then cut the.25 mg that will not be taken - cut this in half, and that should be taken while the other half can be dropped back into the medication bottle.

Once the medication has been reduced, the body will re-adjust to the new dosage with little withdrawal symptoms. The person should wait one month and try to cut back just a little again - up to.25 mg.
The object is to taper off as little as possible. Do not be in a rush to get off of Xanax. Most people have been on the stuff for years, so why all of a sudden they should be in a hurry? I say to slow down.

Also - always consult with your doctor before tapering off of Xanax (or Klonopin - or any Benzo for that matter). The doctor has to be involved in the tapering off process.
